Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Microbial biology and biotechnology are becoming increasingly important as the associated biomolecules are identified. In nature, biological complexities are always associated with chemical diversity. Biological molecules within cellular or subcellular systems represent the real-time status of the organisms. The majority of the related traits—such as qualitative and quantitative nutritional value, flavour, taste, food quality, smell, toxicity, allergenicity and interaction behaviour—are directly correlated with specific molecules. What role do the various developmental stages play in the overall chemical constitution of organisms? And how do interactions both within and between different organisms (e.g., microbe–microbe, animal–microbe, or plant–microbe) and between life forms and their continuously changing environments impact cellular biomolecular content? These are complicated phenomena that need to be deciphered in their entirety. The global identification of different groups of small molecules in the cellular fluids and comparative profiling of the metabolites obtained from cells under varied physiological conditions reveals the functional metabolic status of the organisms and communities, indicates their interaction patterns, and makes it possible to decipher their metabolic signatures. Understanding the bioprospecting of diverse microbial stems as well as their interactions forms an essential basis for effective, innovative technological developments. Generally, it is this chemical diversity rather than the individual chemicals that has the greatest biological relevance. The identification and quantification of the global chemical diversity of biomolecules, which generally results in a variety of biological functions, has considerable biotechnological potential. Moreover, microbial biomolecules have great commercial and industrial potential. They can serve as potential ingredients for the varied natural product-based formulations currently being developed on an industrial scale.
With this Special Issue, we aim to cover topics on biology, biodiversity, bioprospecting, and biotechnological innovations through important microbial natural products and biomolecules. The submissions presented in this Special Issue will include review manuscripts, research manuscripts, and short contributions.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
