Far-Sighted Perspectives of Data Science, AI and Digital Models in Biomedicine

Dear Colleagues,

Prescient ideas, not simply corresponding to prescientific ideas, are those that foreshow the future of a given domain and challenge the most common beliefs prevailing in that field. Other distinguishing characteristics of prescient ideas is that they should avoid attitudes rooted in present times and become common in the future. In our times, predictive Artificial Intelligence (AI) and data science are emerging as promising sources of such far-sighted ideas, manifesting in terms of revolutionary innovations, with the potential to anticipate fundamental changes in an entire domain. This Special Issue is devoted to exploring if AI, data science and allied technologies have the power to become central to the biomedicine domain’s logics of action, with its imaginative ideas that should by themselves guarantee new successes and discoveries. We are seeking papers describing initiatives in the aforementioned biomedinformatics context that are able to enhance the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of various medical conditions at various levels of comprehension. These scientific initiatives may fall within any of the fields mentioned below but may also extend to others not already included.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Bioengineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
