Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The accelerating impacts of climate change are intensifying challenges in water resources management, agriculture, and disaster preparedness. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) are opening unprecedented opportunities for smarter sensing, prediction, and decision-making in climate-sensitive systems. By integrating data from remote sensing, in situ sensors, and telematics with intelligent algorithms, researchers and practitioners can develop innovative solutions for water sustainability, food security, and climate resilience.
This Special Issue invites high-quality research that explores the synergies between IoT and AI for climate action, with a particular focus on water-related applications and cross-sectoral linkages. We welcome contributions that combine technical innovation with real-world case studies, aiming to bridge the gap between advanced modeling and practical implementation.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:
- AI-based flood forecasting, early warning, and disaster management.
- Game-theoretic frameworks for water allocation, pricing, and transboundary governance.
- Integrated assessment tools for the Water–Energy–Food (WEF) Nexus under climate stress.
- Telematics, IoT, and sensor networks for water informatics and decision support.
- Deep learning and hybrid models for rainfall, runoff, and drought prediction.
- Smart irrigation and climate-resilient water management for agriculture.
- Edge AI and federated learning for distributed water and climate data systems.
- Remote sensing and geospatial analytics for water resources monitoring.
- Digital twins of river basins, reservoirs, or urban water systems.
- Uncertainty quantification, explainability, and trust in AI models for climate-sensitive decision-making.
- Case studies on IoT–AI adoption in water, agriculture, and energy sectors.
We welcome original research articles, reviews, and application-oriented studies that advance the state of knowledge and practice in AI and IoT-driven approaches to climate action. Submissions that integrate multidisciplinary perspectives and demonstrate rigorous validation in real-world or simulated environments are especially encouraged.
This Special Issue aims to provide a platform for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to showcase cutting-edge work, fostering the development of reliable and scalable IoT-AI solutions for climate resilience and sustainable water resource management.
We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. AI is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
