Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Agriculture is rapidly evolving toward more sustainable, efficient, and intelligent production systems. Growing concerns regarding climate change, labor shortages, rising energy costs, and environmental protection have accelerated the demand for eco-friendly machinery and smart farming solutions. In this context, artificial intelligence (AI), robotics, automation, electrification, sensor technologies, and data analytics are transforming the design and operation of modern agricultural machinery.

This Special Issue, “Eco-Friendly Smart Farming Technologies: AI and Robotics in Agricultural Machinery”, aims to provide a platform for high-quality research addressing the development, optimization, and practical application of advanced agricultural machinery systems that improve productivity while reducing emissions, fuel consumption, soil compaction, and environmental impact. The topics of interest include electric-, hybrid-, and hydrogen-powered tractors; autonomous tractors and field robots; precision seeding, spraying, and harvesting systems; machine vision and crop monitoring technologies; intelligent control systems; digital twins; navigation and guidance systems; renewable energy-powered farm machinery; and human–machine interaction in agriculture.

We welcome original research articles, review papers, case studies, and technical communications that demonstrate innovative engineering solutions, field validation, system modeling, lifecycle assessment, machinery safety, and scalable smart farming applications. This Special Issue seeks to connect researchers, engineers, manufacturers, and policymakers working toward the next generation of sustainable and intelligent agricultural mechanization.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. AgriEngineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
