Cover Story: In this study, we introduce a data-driven framework to assess the quality of high-frequency pedestrian commuting streets (HFPCSs) in Shenzhen. Using urban big data, we identify significant mismatches in street quality across the city, with only 2.15% of HFPCSs meeting balanced benchmarks. Our research findings emphasize the need for a human-centered approach to urban renewal, with a four-stage optimization framework proposed to enhance street quality. These insights offer a replicable model for improving urban environments, advocating for evidence-based interventions tailored to pedestrian needs. View this paper
