The First International Virtual Exchange between African and New Zealand Researchers

Cover Story: The First International Virtual Exchange between African and New Zealand Researchers (IVEANZR), hosted by the University of Canterbury (NZ), was held for 2 hours via Zoom on 15 May 2024. The purpose of this virtual conference was to provide a forum for postgraduate students and researchers to present their latest work in an international conference environment, without the burden of a registration fee and the prohibitive cost of international travel, obstacles which especially impact emerging researchers. There were 148 registered participants from several countries and a total of nine presentations. The success of this event supports the notion that virtual conferences are a sustainable, low-carbon, and interactive way to share knowledge across international borders.
