Cover Story: Over the past two decades, Candida biofilm research has evolved, driven by classical molecular approaches that have allowed for a comprehensive understanding of how these complex communities develop. However, wild type clinical strains often behave differently from classical laboratory strains, with unpredictable behaviours in animal model and human infections. This review evaluates current literature with respect to clinical outcomes associated with biofilm formation, as well as the pre-disposing factors that influence biofilm heterogeneity.
