Cover Story: Generative artificial intelligence is transforming higher education, creating opportunities and challenges for academic integrity and impacting students. ChatGPT and other AI models may revolutionize learning, but they also raise concerns about detecting AI generated content. While AI enables language and accessibility support for international students, they may also be disproportionately impacted by model biases. Educators must consider AI literacy, ethics, and cultural competence to ensure technologies promote equitable access and outcomes for all groups. This paper explores GAI's ramifications for international students. An AI literacy framework extension is offered to help educators navigate cultural competence and equitable uses of AI in teaching.
