Cover Story: The malignant progression of tumors, known as metastasis, is a combination of various external and internal factors, which can be of both biochemical and physical origin. The tumors interact directly or indirectly with their cellular and acellular molecular environment. The immune system of the organism, such as tumor-associated neutrophil granulocytes (TANs) and tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs), plays an essential role in this process, as they can be both tumor-promoting and tumor-suppressing.
