Cover Story: Previous studies demonstrated abnormal upregulation of the transcription factor GATA3 in malignant Hodgkin and Reed–Sternberg (HRS) cells in classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL). Nevertheless, the detailed characterization of the immunophenotypes of cell types expressing GATA3 in cHL remains incomplete. This retrospective single-centre cohort study examined the expression patterns of GATA3 both independently and in conjunction with B, T, NK, or macrophage-associated markers in patients with cHL. A statistically significant correlation was found between GATA3-negative cHL and unfavourable prognostic markers, including advanced age and elevated serum β2-microglobulin levels. The heterogeneous expression patterns of GATA3 in HRS cells, particularly in the NS subtype of cHL, provide additional evidence for the biological heterogeneity of cHL. View this paper
