Cover Story: Ore grades have been declining globally over the last few decades. In this context, it is assumed that the demand for energy has also increased enormously. Using copper as an example, the study investigates the development of cumulative energy demand and its impact on climate change over the last eight decades. The findings indicate that, thus far, technological progress has been able to offset the decreasing ore grade. It will also be possible to stabilize or even reduce the effects in the future, but only through further technological improvements such as renewable energies. View this paper.
