Cover Story: The self-assembly of block copolymers in aqueous solution is an important field in modern polymer science that has been extended to double hydrophilic block copolymers (DHBC) recently. We report self-assembly of a DHBC by utilizing a linear-brush polymer, namely poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)-b-poly(oligo(ethylene glycol) methyl ether methacrylate). Moreover, non-covalent crosslinking is performed with tannic acid, which improves self-assembly and stabilizes the aggregates. The presence of aggregates is studied via cryogenic scanning electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering and analytical ultracentrifugation before and after crosslinking, clearly revealing polymer assemblies. In summary, completely hydrophilic self-assembled structures are formed in solution from fully biocompatible entities. View this paper.
