Cover Story: Rigid body simulation is widely used in robotics, games, and films, and the demand for higher performance continues to grow. As performance scaling reaches its limits, parallel scale-out becomes essential, yet rigid body simulation remains difficult to parallelize efficiently. This paper proposes a GPU-oriented method that accelerates large-scale scenes by hierarchically clustering rigid bodies and mapping these clusters to the GPU’s hardware structure. We further relax the traditional Gauss–Seidel block-parallel condition and show that convergence is preserved. Experiments comparing our approach with widely used physics engines demonstrate that our method achieves significantly faster computation without notable loss of accuracy, enabling performance previously unattainable with existing techniques. View this paper
