Cover Story: Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a novel non-thermal method for atrial fibrillation (AF) treatment via pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). Using irreversible electro-poration, PFA creates lesions with minimal impact on surrounding tissues. This study compared the procedural outcomes and safety of a new circular PFA catheter (PulseSelectTM) with an established system (FarapulseTM) in 125 AF patients undergoing first-time PVI at Ulm University Heart Center. Acute PVI was achieved in all patients. Procedure duration, left atrial time, and fluoroscopy time were comparable. The novel catheter required more energy deliveries. No procedure-related complications occurred. In the hands of experienced operators, the novel circular PFA system enables an effective, consistent, and safe approach to successful PFA PVI.
