Cover Story: Tellurium (Te) enrichment has been identified in Mid-Jurassic pyritic coals at Brora, Scotland, compared to crustal mean, world coal compositions and British Isles Carboniferous coals. Te enrichment coincides with selenium (Se) in pyrite rims, and Se/Te is lower than in Carboniferous coal pyrite. The Te source may have been a local gold hydrothermal system. Anomalous Te is detectable in coal by laser ablation inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. Coal photo courtesy of Louise Mackay. View this paper
