Cover Story: The immobilization of antimicrobial agents on plastic surfaces through easy methodologies has attracted a great deal of research over the last few years, to afford scalable functional materials endowed with antimicrobial activity. Our studies deal with the synthesis of new antimicrobial ruthenium complexes bearing a long aliphatic chain, a structural feature that was exploited in tethering them onto a polystyrene surface through hydrophobic interactions, thus affording antimicrobial composites.
