Cover Story: Operation and maintenance (O&M) costs of ocean energy devices have a significant influence on the Levelised Cost of Energy (LCOE). Due to the level of maturity of the sector, there are several uncertainties relating to the O&M figures that can only be reduced through real sea operation. This paper studies three cases to show the potential advantages of having real sea experience. One case considers an industry simplified approach in the absence of O&M experience. The other two cases consider O&M models calibrated with real sea data, based on the OPERA and EnFAIT projects. View this paper.
