Mass Spectrometry-Based Metabolomics in Disease Biomarker Discovery
This special issue belongs to the section “Metabolomic Profiling Technology“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The discovery of disease biomarkers enables us to detect, diagnose, or monitor diseases. It even benefits us in the diagnosis of early-stage disease and ultimately helps at-risk individuals take preventive action before the disease progresses unnoticed. Mass spectrometry technique brings us to a new era of metabolomics, which is one of the exciting study areas for biomarker discovery, improving our deeper understanding of various disease mechanisms. However, the shortages and challenges of mass spectrometry-based metabolomics for biomarker discovery are evident and need to be properly addressed, including sample preparation complexity, limited metabolite coverage, a qualification bottleneck, and quantification issues, as well as data complexity and interpretation. We are accelerating our pace to develop higher-throughput and more efficient metabolomics platforms, increase the reliability and reproducibility of metabolite detection, and generate more convenient bioinformatics tools for accurate data analysis, among other objectives, to aid in disease biomarker discovery.
Therefore, this Special Issue is dedicated to Mass spectrometry-based Metabolomics in Disease Biomarker Discovery. The topic will be covered in a wide range of areas, including, but not limited to: novel biomarker discovery using MS-based metabolomics; method development and optimization for MS analysis; advances in sample preparation and derivatization techniques; and bioinformatic software development for complex MS data interpretation and analysis.
This Special Issue aims to highlight cutting-edge research and explore innovative strategies for MS-based disease biomarker discovery from multiple perspectives.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Metabolites is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
