Dear Colleagues,
Point-of-care critical ultrasound (POCUS) refers to an ultrasound technique that is performed by clinical medical staff with intensive care capabilities in the intensive care unit. It enables the acquisition of patients' pathophysiological and hemodynamic information in real-time, thereby enabling the development of customized management plans for clinical decision-making. POCUS enables us to swiftly identify the potential causes and severity of organ dysfunction and failure in critically ill patients, significantly enhancing the accuracy and reliability of diagnosis. Therefore, it plays an increasingly important role in guiding the timely and correct treatment and care of critically ill patients, improving the safety of critically ill patients in pathological conditions and enhancing prognosis. It has become an essential skill for the treatment of neonatal/child critical illnesses.
In order to further promote the application and popularization of POCUS technology in the field of neonatal/child critical care, Diagnostics has decided to organize a Special Issue titled "Critical Ultrasound in Newborns/Children".
The content of the solicitation includes, but is not limited to, the following aspects:
- The research, application, and new discoveries of critical ultrasound in the diagnosis, treatment, and nursing management of various critical diseases of the organ systems in newborns and children are of the utmost importance. These diseases include, but are not limited to, central and peripheral nerves, heart and blood vessels, lungs, abdomen and genitourinary system, trauma, shock and hemodynamic disorders, and congenital malformations. The research is especially focused on multi-center and prospective studies.
- Basic and experimental research on ultrasound in neonatal and pediatric critical conditions.
- Research and application of artificial intelligence-assisted diagnosis technology in the critical care of newborns and children.
- The papers include, but are not limited to, the following forms: original research, short reports, outstanding case studies, interesting images, comprehensive reviews, systematic reviews and meta-analyses, etc.
- Guidelines or expert consensus on the application of critical care ultrasound in the field of neonates/children.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
