Thermodynamic Analysis and Its Theoretical System for Sustainable Energy Sources

Dear Colleagues,

The issue of sustainable energy sources is the sustainability of free energy or exergy. In the 1840s, the caloric doctrine of heat conservation came under attack. The task of ushering the scientific revolution into a scientific theory called thermodynamics fell to William Thomson and Rudolf Clausius in the 1850s, supplanting the caloric doctrine with the conversion doctrine of free energy, which, in the 20th century, was reformulated into the doctrine of exergy and anergy. A case can be made that, whereas the concept of free energy or exergy is central to the issue of sustainable energy sources, sustainability of exergy is not possible under the doctrine of exergy and anergy; furthermore, the concept of a positive-semidefinite anergy is nonsensical; both the doctrine and the concept should be rejected if the possibility of sustainability is to be considered. This Special Issue invites the exchange of ideas centered on the theme and contributions about solar energy, wind energy, hydropower, geothermal energy, etc., and nuclear energy, with a nod towards framing these contributions under this theme.
