Three-dimensional trench electrode silicon detectors play an important role in particle physics research, nuclear radiation detection, and other fields. A novel polysilicon-fill-strengthened etch-through 3D trench electrode detector is proposed to address the shortcomings of traditional 3D trench electrode silicon detectors; for example, the distribution of non-uniform electric fields, asymmetric electric potential, and dead zone. The physical properties of the detector have been extensively and systematically studied. This study simulated the electric field, potential, electron concentration distribution, complete depletion voltage, leakage current, capacitance, transient current induced by incident particles, and weighting field distribution of the detector. It also systematically studied and analyzed the electrical characteristics of the detector. Compared to traditional 3D trench electrode silicon detectors, this new detector adopts a manufacturing process of double-side etching technology and double-side filling technology, which results in a more sensitive detector volume and higher electric field uniformity. In addition, the size of the detector unit is 120 µm × 120 µm × 340 µm; the structure has a small fully depleted voltage, reaching a fully depleted state at around 1.4 V, with a saturation leakage current of approximately 4.8×1010A, and a geometric capacitance of about 99 fF. Background: Precision medicine refers to the formulation of personalized drug regimens according to the individual characteristics of patients to achieve optimal efficacy and minimize adverse reactions. Additive manufacturing (AM), also known as three-dimensional (3D) printing, has emerged as an optimal solution for precision drug delivery, enabling customizable and the fabrication of multifunctional structures with precise control over morphology and release behavior in pharmaceutics. However, the influence of 3D printing parameters on the printed tablets, especially regarding in vitro and in vivo performance, remains poorly understood, limiting the optimization of manufacturing processes for controlled-release profiles. Objective: To establish the fabrication process of 3D-printed controlled-release tablets via comprehensively understanding the printing parameters using fused deposition modeling (FDM) combined with hot-melt extrusion (HME) technologies. HPMC-AS/HPC-EF was used as the drug delivery matrix and carbamazepine (CBZ) was used as a model drug to investigate the in vitro drug delivery performance of the printed tablets. Methodology: Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was employed to assess the thermal compatibility of CBZ with HPMC-AS/HPC-EF excipients up to 230 °C, surpassing typical processing temperatures (160–200 °C). The formation of stable amorphous solid dispersions (ASDs) was validated using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), hot-stage polarized light microscopy (PLM), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). A 15-group full factorial design was then used to evaluate the effects of the fan speed (20–100%), platform temperature (40–80 °C), and printing speed (20–100 mm/s) on the tablet properties. Response surface modeling (RSM) with inverse square-root transformation was applied to analyze the dissolution kinetics, specifically t50% (time for 50% drug release) and Q4h (drug released at 4 h). Results: TGA confirmed the thermal compatibility of CBZ with HPMC-AS/HPC-EF, enabling stable ASD formation validated by DSC, PLM, and PXRD. The full factorial design revealed that printing speed was the dominant parameter governing dissolution behavior, with high speeds accelerating release and low speeds prolonging release through porosity-modulated diffusion control. RSM quadratic models showed optimal fits for t50% (R2 = 0.9936) and Q4h (R2 = 0.9019), highlighting the predictability of release kinetics via process parameter tuning. This work demonstrates the adaptability of polymer composite AM for tailoring drug release profiles, balancing mechanical integrity, release kinetics, and manufacturing scalability to advance multifunctional 3D-printed drug delivery devices in pharmaceutics. Background/Objectives: Additive manufacturing (AM) technology has emerged as an innovative approach in dentistry. Recently, manufacturers have developed permanent resins engineered explicitly for the fabrication of definitive prostheses using AM techniques. This systematic review evaluated the mechanical and physical properties of 3D-printed permanent resins in comparison to milled resins and hybrid ceramics for the fabrication of indirect dental restorations. Methods: Three electronic databases—Scopus, Web of Science, and PubMed—were searched for English-language articles. Two independent researchers conducted study selection, data extraction, quality assessment, and the evaluation of the certainty of evidence. In vitro studies assessing the mechanical and physical properties of the permanent resins were included in this review. Results: A total of 1779 articles were identified through electronic databases. Following full-text screening and eligibility assessment, 13 studies published between 2023 and 2024 were included in this qualitative review. The investigated outcomes included physical properties (surface roughness, color changes, water sorption/solubility) and mechanical properties (flexural strength, elastic modulus, microhardness). Conclusions: Three-dimensionally printed permanent resins show promising potential for fabricating indirect dental restorations. However, the current evidence regarding their mechanical and physical properties remain limited and inconsistent, mainly due to variability in study methodologies. Full article

Traditional 2D optical markers degrade quickly in underwater applications due to sediment accumulation and marine biofouling, becoming undetectable within weeks. This paper presents a Three-Dimensional Binary Marker, a novel passive fiducial marker designed for underwater Long-Term Deployment. The Three-Dimensional Binary Marker addresses the 2D-markers limitation through a 3D design that enhances resilience and maintains contrast for computer vision detection over extended periods. The proposed solution has been validated through simulation, water tank testing, and long-term sea trials for 5 months. In each stage, the marker was compared based on detection per visible frame and the detection distance. In conclusion, the design demonstrated superior performance compared to standard 2D markers. The proposed Three-Dimensional Binary Marker provides compatibility with widely used fiducial markers, such as ArUco and AprilTag, allowing quick adaptation for users. In terms of fabrication, the Three-Dimensional Binary Marker uses additive manufacturing, offering a low-cost and scalable solution for underwater localization tasks. The proposed marker improved the deployment time of fiducial markers from a couple of days to sixty days and with a range up to seven meters, providing robustness and reliability. As the marker survivability and detection range depend on its size, it is still a valuable innovation for Autonomous Underwater Vehicles, as well as for inspection, maintenance, and monitoring tasks in marine robotics and offshore infrastructure applications. Additive manufacturing (AM) has emerged as a transformative technology in dentistry, enabling the production of patient-specific dental applications with reduced costs and fabrication times. Despite the growth of applications, a consolidated understanding of current 3D printing technologies, materials, and performance in dental settings remains fragmented. Here, we perform a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) using the PRISMA protocol, retrieving 19 closely related primary studies. The evidence is synthesized across three axes: application domain, AM technology, and critical quality parameters. Dental restorations, prosthetics, crowns, and implants are the most common applications, while fused deposition modeling, stereolithography, digital light processing, selective laser sintering, and laser-directed energy deposition are the most used technologies. AM materials include polymers, metals, and emerging biomaterials. Key quality determinants include dimensional accuracy, wear and corrosion resistance, and photosensitivity. Notably, biocompatibility and cytotoxicity remain underexplored yet critical factors for ensuring long-term clinical safety. The evidence also suggests a lack of in vivo studies, insufficient tribological and microbiological testing, including limited data degradation pathways of AM materials under oral conditions. Understanding that there are disconnects between the realization of the clinical and the economic benefits of 3D printing in dentistry, future research requires standardized testing frameworks and long-term biocompatibility validation. The development of high-performance adsorbent materials is crucial for any sorption-based energy conversion process. In such a context, composite sorbent materials, although promising in terms of performance and stability, are often challenging to shape into complex geometries. Additive manufacturing, also known as 3D printing, has emerged as a powerful technique for fabricating intricate structures with tailored properties. In this paper, an innovative three-dimensional structure, constituted by zeolite as filler and sulfonated polyether ether ketone as matrix, was obtained using additive manufacturing technology, which is mainly suitable for sorption-based energy conversion processes. The lattice structure was tailored in order to optimize the synthesis procedure and material stability. The complex three-dimensional lattice structure was obtained without a metal or plastic reinforcement support. The composite structure was evaluated to assess its structural integrity using morphological analysis. Furthermore, the adsorption/desorption capacity was evaluated using water-vapor adsorption isobars at 11 mbar at equilibrium in the temperature range 30–120 °C, confirming good adsorption/desorption capacity. The proliferation of electromagnetic wave applications has accentuated electromagnetic pollution concerns, highlighting the critical importance of electromagnetic wave absorbers (EMA). This study proposes innovative I-Wrapped Package Lattice electromagnetic wave absorbers (IWP–EMA) based on the triply periodic minimal surface (TPMS) lattice structure. Through a rational design of porous gradient structures, broadband wave absorption was achieved while maintaining lightweight characteristics and mechanical robustness. The optimized three-dimensional configuration features a 20 mm thick gradient structure with a progressive relative density transition from 10% to 30%. Under normal incidence conditions, this gradient IWP–EMA basically achieves broadband absorption with a reflection loss below −10 dB across the 2–40 GHz frequency band, with absorption peaks below −19 dB, demonstrating good impedance-matching characteristics. Additionally, due to the complex interactions of electromagnetic waves within the structure, the proposed IWP–EMA achieves a wide-angle absorption range of 70° under Transverse Electric (TE) polarization and 70° under Transverse Magnetic (TM) polarization. The synergistic integration of the TPMS design and additive manufacturing technology employed in this study significantly expands the design space and application potential of electromagnetic absorption structures. Microneedle arrays (MNAs) are becoming increasingly popular due to their ease of use and effectiveness in drug delivery and diagnostic applications. Improvements in three-dimensional (3D) printing techniques have made it possible to fabricate MNAs with high precision, intricate designs, and customizable properties, expanding their potential in medical applications. While most studies have focused on transdermal applications, non-transdermal uses remain relatively underexplored. This review summarizes recent developments in 3D-printed MNAs intended for non-transdermal drug delivery and diagnostic purposes. It includes a literature review of studies published in the past ten years, organized by the target delivery site—such as the brain and central nervous system (CNS), oral cavity, eyes, gastrointestinal (GI) tract, and cardiovascular and reproductive systems, among other emerging areas. The findings show that 3D-printed MNAs are more adaptable than skin-based delivery, opening up exciting new possibilities for use in a variety of organs and systems. To guarantee the effective incorporation of polymeric non-transdermal MNAs into clinical practice, additional research is necessary to address current issues with materials, manufacturing processes, and regulatory approval. Background/Objectives: Recent breakthroughs in three-dimensional (3D) printing and high-resolution imaging have opened up new possibilities in personalized medicine, surgical planning, and forensic reconstruction. This study breaks new ground by evaluating the integration of high-resolution peripheral quantitative computed tomography (HR-pQCT) with multimodal imaging and additive manufacturing to assess a chronic, infected gunshot injury in the knee joint of a red deer. This unique approach serves as a translational model for complex skeletal trauma. Methods: Multimodal imaging—including clinical CT, MRI, and HR-pQCT—was used to characterise the extent of osseous and soft tissue damage. Histopathological and molecular analyses were performed to confirm the infectious agent. HR-pQCT datasets were segmented and processed for 3D printing using PolyJet, stereolithography (SLA), and fused deposition modelling (FDM). Printed models were quantitatively benchmarked through 3D surface deviation analysis. Results: Imaging revealed comminuted fractures, cortical and trabecular degradation, and soft tissue involvement, consistent with chronic osteomyelitis. Sphingomonas sp., a bacterium that forms biofilms, was identified as the pathogen. Among the printing methods, PolyJet and SLA demonstrated the highest anatomical accuracy, whereas FDM exhibited greater geometric deviation. Conclusions: HR-pQCT-guided 3D printing provides a powerful tool for the anatomical visualisation and quantitative assessment of complex bone pathology. This approach not only enhances diagnostic precision but also supports applications in surgical rehearsal and forensic analysis. It illustrates the potential of digital imaging and additive manufacturing to advance orthopaedic and trauma care, inspiring future research and applications in the field. Full article

The dimensional accuracy of 3D-printed edentulous jaw models is critical for successful prosthetic treatment outcomes. This study investigated the accuracy of 3D-printed working models of a completely edentulous jaw through comparative analysis of digital images generated by three laboratory scanners. A reference plaster model of a mandibular edentulous arch was digitized and used to produce ten resin models via digital light processing (DLP) technology. Each model was scanned using three different laboratory scanners: AutoScan-DS-EX, AutoScan-DS-EX Pro(H), and Optical 3D Scanner Vinyl. Digital comparison was performed using specialized software, evaluating the root mean square (RMS) deviation and percentage of values within an acceptable deviation range ±0.05 mm. All printed models showed significant deviations from the reference model (p < 0.05), with RMS values ranging from 109.2–139.7 µm and acceptable deviation percentages ranging from 29.34 to 32.31%. The mean precision RMS value was 66.37 µm. The mean intraclass correlation coefficient of 0.544 indicated moderate precision. Optical 3D Scanner Vinyl demonstrated the highest consistency, while AutoScan-DS-EX Pro(H) showed maximum variability. No statistically significant differences were found between scanners (p = 0.075). While the investigated scanners demonstrated reliable performance and sufficient accuracy, the additive manufacturing process introduced clinically significant deviations, highlighting the importance of verification between printed models and their digital originals before proceeding with clinical stages. Clinical practice should prioritize scanning systems with advanced software algorithms over those with superior hardware specifications alone. Full article

Background/Objectives: Digital prosthodontics increasingly utilize both additive (3D printing) and subtractive Computer-Aided Design/Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAD/CAM), yet comprehensive comparisons remain limited. This scoping review evaluates their relative performance across prosthodontic applications. Methods: Systematic searches (PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, 2015–2025) identified 28 studies (27 in vitro, 1 retrospective). Data were extracted on accuracy, efficiency, materials, and outcomes. Results: CAD/CAM milling demonstrated superior accuracy for fixed prostheses, with marginal gaps for milled zirconia (123.89 ± 56.89 µm), comparable to optimized 3D-printed interim crowns (123.87 ± 67.42 µm, p = 0.760). For removable prostheses, milled denture bases achieved a trueness of 65 ± 6 µm, while SLA-printed dentures post-processed at 40 °C for 30 min showed the lowest root mean square error (RMSE) (30 min/40 °C group). Three-dimensional printing excelled in material efficiency (<5% waste vs. milling > 30–40%) and complex geometries, such as hollow-pontic fixed dental prostheses (FDPs) (2.0 mm wall thickness reduced gaps by 33%). Build orientation (45° for crowns, 30–45° for veneers) and post-processing protocols significantly influenced accuracy. Milled resins exhibited superior color stability (ΔE00: 1.2 ± 0.3 vs. 3D-printed: 4.5 ± 1.1, p < 0.05), while 3D-printed Co-Cr frameworks (SLM) showed marginal fits of 8.4 ± 3.2 µm, surpassing milling (130.3 ± 13.8 µm). Digital workflows reduced chairside time by 29% (154.31 ± 13.19 min vs. 218.00 ± 20.75 min). All methods met clinical thresholds (<120 µm gaps). Conclusions: Milling remains preferred for high-precision fixed prostheses, while 3D printing offers advantages in material efficiency, complex designs, and removable applications. Critical gaps include long-term clinical data and standardized protocols. Future research should prioritize hybrid workflows, advanced materials, and AI-driven optimization to bridge technical and clinical gaps. Full article

Three-Dimensional Manufacturing of Mandibular Total Edentulous Simulation Model for In Vitro Studies—Concept and Validation

Background: Stereolithography is a rapid prototyping and 3D printing technique that creates solid three-dimensional models. An accurate and functional 3D model using stereolithography is invaluable in scientific research, particularly in studies involving edentulous patients. Additive manufacture and CAD systems help achieve accurate measurements and procedures and be easily replicated by lowering human error mistakes. The main objective of this study was to develop an in vitro simulation model with a reduced alveolar ridge with the same characteristics as mandibular edentulous patients using stereolithography. Methods: A mandibular model with a resorbed mandibular crest was scanned, and the STL model was aligned to the XYZ reference system. A reduction in the alveolar ridge corresponding to the mandibular mucosa of an edentulous patient was achieved. A negative model also derived from the original model was made to ensure the space for oral simulation material. A dimensional stability test was performed to validate the model. Results: The maximal mean displacement of the model was 0.015 mm, and the minimal mean displacement was 0.004 mm. The oral mucosa had a displacement of approximately 1.6 mm. Conclusions: An in vitro 3D simulation model of a complete edentulous patient mucosa was achieved. Full article

Three-dimensional food printing (3DFP), a specialized application of additive manufacturing (AM), employs a layer-by-layer deposition process guided by digital image files to fabricate edible structures. Utilizing heavily modified 3D printers and Computer-Aided Design (CAD) software technology allows for the precise creation of customized food items tailored to individual aesthetic preferences and nutritional requirements. Three-dimensional food printing holds significant potential in revolutionizing the food industry by enabling the production of personalized meals, enhancing the sensory dining experience, and addressing specific dietary constraints. Despite these promising applications, 3DFP remains one of the most intricate and technically demanding areas within AM, particularly in the context of modern gastronomy. Challenges such as the rheological behaviour of food materials, print stability, and the integration of cooking functions must be addressed to fully realize its capabilities. This article explores the possibilities of applying classical modified 3D printers in the food industry. The behaviour of certain recipes is also tested. Two test case scenarios are covered. The first scenario is the work and formation of a homogenized meat mass. The second scenario involves finding a chocolate recipe that is suitable for printing relatively detailed chocolate decorative elements. The current advancements, technical challenges, and future opportunities of 3DFP in the field of engineering, culinary innovation and nutritional science are also explored. Full article

(1) While three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is increasingly being used for the fabrication of high-fidelity, patient-specific aortic models, data on the mechanical properties of polymers are sparse. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify suitable polymers for this purpose. (2) Methods: Eight flexible polymers, with Shore A hardnesses (ShA) of 27–85, were tested to determine their suitability for PolyJet printing technology. They were tested against porcine aortic and bovine pericardial tissue for suture retention strength, uniaxial stress testing according to ISO 37, and burst pressure in a standardized test setting. (3) Results: The polymers with a ShA of 30–50 showed statistically non-inferior suture retention strength, tensile strength, and burst pressure resistance when compared to pericardial and aortic tissue, respectively. (4) Conclusions: This was the first report to analyze the mechanical properties of eight different flexible PolyJet polymers. We found that the polymers with a Shore A hardness of 30–50 most closely mimicked the mechanical properties of aortic tissue. Therefore, they can be recommended for the additive manufacturing (3D printing) of aortic phantoms for simulation and training purposes. Full article

Selective Laser Sintering of Atomoxetine Tablets: An Innovative Approach for Small-Scale, Personalized Production

Background/Objectives: The growing interest in personalized medicine has accelerated the exploration of three-dimensional (3D) printing technologies in pharmaceutical applications. This study investigates the potential of selective laser sintering (SLS) as a flexible, small-scale manufacturing method for atomoxetine tablets tailored for individualized therapy, comparing it with conventional direct compression. Methods: Atomoxetine tablets were produced using SLS 3D printing with varying laser scanning speeds and compared to tablets made via a compaction simulator. Formulations were based on hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) as the primary matrix former. The physical properties, drug content, disintegration time, and dissolution profiles were evaluated. The structural and chemical integrity were assessed using SEM, FTIR, DSC, and XRPD. Results: The SLS tablets exhibited comparable mechanical properties and drug content to those made by compaction. Lower laser speeds produced harder tablets with slower disintegration, while higher speeds yielded more porous tablets with ultra-rapid drug release (>85% in 15 min). All tablets met the European Pharmacopoeia dissolution criteria. No significant drug–excipient interactions or changes in crystallinity were detected. Conclusions: SLS printing is a viable alternative to traditional tablet manufacturing, offering control over drug release profiles through parameter adjustment. The technique supports the development of high-quality, patient-specific dosage forms and shows promise for broader implementation in personalized pharmaceutical therapy. Full article
