As ad-supported subscription models proliferate across over-the-top (OTT) media platforms, understanding the psychological mechanisms and perceptual factors that underlie consumers’ transition decisions becomes increasingly consequential. This study integrates the Uses and Gratifications framework with a contemporary motivation-based perspective to examine how users’ media consumption motivations and advertising attitudes predict intentions to adopt ad-supported OTT plans. Data were collected via a nationally representative online survey in South Korea (N = 813). The sample included both premium subscribers (n = 708) and non-subscribers (n = 105). The findings reveal distinct segmentation in decision-making patterns. Among premium subscribers, switching intentions were predominantly driven by intrinsic motivations—particularly identity alignment with content—and by the perceived informational value of advertisements. These individuals are more likely to consider ad-supported plans when ad content is personally relevant and cognitively enriching. Conversely, non-subscribers exhibited greater sensitivity to extrinsic cues such as the entertainment value of ads and the presence of tangible incentives (e.g., discounts), suggesting a hedonic-reward orientation. By advancing a dual-pathway explanatory model, this study contributes to the theoretical discourse on digital subscription behavior and offers actionable insights for OTT service providers. The results underscore the necessity of segment-specific advertising strategies: premium subscribers may be engaged through informative and identity-consistent advertising, while non-subscribers respond more favorably to enjoyable and benefit-laden ad experiences. These insights inform platform monetization efforts amid the evolving dynamics of consumer attention and subscription fatigue. Full article

This study systematically investigates 50 μm-diameter 631 stainless steel fine wires subjected to both sequential and simultaneous electrothermomechanical loading to simulate probe spring conditions in microelectronic test environments. Under cyclic current loading (~104 A/cm2), the 50 μm 631SS wire maintained electrical integrity up to 0.30 A for 15,000 cycles. Above 0.35 A, rapid oxide growth and abnormal grain coarsening resulted in surface embrittlement and mechanical degradation. Current-assisted tensile testing revealed a transition from recovery-dominated behavior at ≤0.20 A to significant thermal softening and ductility loss at ≥0.25 A, corresponding to a threshold temperature of approximately 200 °C. These results establish the endurance limit of 631 stainless steel wire under coupled thermal–mechanical–electrical stress and clarify the roles of Joule heating, oxidation, and microstructural evolution in electrical fatigue resistance. A degradation map is proposed to inform design margins and operational constraints for fatigue-tolerant, electrically stable interconnects in high-reliability probe spring applications. Full article

Addressing the need for contact load detection in wind turbine main bearings during service, a roller contact load measurement method is proposed. An analytical model characterizes the contact load-to-inner bore strain mapping relationship. To overcome the inherent low sensitivity of direct bore strain measurement, bore-to-measurement-point sensitivity analysis was optimized. Multiple structurally optimized sensor brackets were designed to enhance strain measurement sensitivity, and their performance was comparatively evaluated via simulation. To mitigate sensitivity fluctuations caused by roller rotation phase variations, a strain–phase–load calculation method incorporating real-time phase compensation was developed and verified through simulation analysis. A dedicated roller contact load testing system was constructed and experimental validation was conducted. Results demonstrate 95% accuracy in contact load acquisition. This method accurately obtains roller contact loads in wind turbine main bearings, proving crucial for studying bearing mechanical behavior, predicting fatigue life, optimizing structural design, and enhancing reliability. Underground blasting vibrations are a critical factor influencing the stability of mine slopes. However, existing studies have yet to establish a quantitative relationship or clarify the underlying mechanisms linking blasting-induced vibrations and slope deformation. Taking the Shilu Iron Mine as a case study, this research develops a dynamic mechanical response model of slope stability that accounts for blasting loads. By integrating slope radar remote sensing data and applying the Pearson correlation coefficient, this study quantitatively evaluates—for the first time—the correlation between underground blasting activity and slope surface deformation. The results reveal that blasting vibrations are characterized by typical short-duration, high-amplitude pulse patterns, with horizontal shear stress identified as the primary trigger for slope shear failure. Both elevation and lithological conditions significantly influence the intensity of vibration responses: high-elevation areas and structurally loose rock masses exhibit greater dynamic sensitivity. A pronounced lag effect in slope deformation was observed following blasting, with cumulative displacements increasing by 10.13% and 34.06% at one and six hours post-blasting, respectively, showing a progressive intensification over time. Mechanistically, the impact of blasting on slope stability operates through three interrelated processes: abrupt perturbations in the stress environment, stress redistribution due to rock mass deformation, and the long-term accumulation of fatigue-induced damage. This integrated approach provides new insights into slope behavior under blasting disturbances and offers valuable guidance for slope stability assessment and hazard mitigation. Full article

Railway axles are among the most safety-critical components in rolling stock, as their failure can lead to catastrophic consequences. One of the most subtle damage mechanisms affecting these components is fretting fatigue, which is a particularly challenging damage mechanism in these components, as it can initiate cracks under real service conditions and is difficult to detect in its early stages, which is vital to ensure operational safety and to optimize maintenance strategies. This paper focuses on the development of fretting fatigue damage in solid railway axles under realistic service-like conditions. Full-scale axle specimens with artificially induced notches were subjected to loading conditions that promote fretting fatigue crack initiation and growth. Acoustic emission techniques were used to monitor the damage progression, and post-processing of the emitted signals, by using wavelet-based tools, was conducted to identify early indicators of crack formation. The experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed approach allows for reliable identification of fretting-induced crack initiation, contributing valuable insights into the in-service behavior of railway axles under this damage mechanism. The study investigates the influence of microstructures on fatigue behavior and failure mechanisms of the α-β titanium alloy Ti6246, fabricated via Powder Bed Fusion-Laser Beam (PBF-LB). In particular, the investigation assesses the effect of two post-processing heat treatments, namely α-β annealing at 875 °C (AN875) and solution treatment at 825 °C followed by aging at 500 °C (STA825), on the alloy’s rotating and bending fatigue behavior. The results indicate that the STA825 condition provides superior fatigue resistance (+25%) compared to AN875, due to the presence of a finer bilamellar microstructure, characterized by thinner primary α lamellae (αp) and a more homogeneous distribution of secondary α lamellae (αs) within the β matrix. Additionally, an investigation conducted using the Kitagawa–Takahashi (KT) approach and the El-Haddad model, based on the relationship between the fatigue limit and defect sensitivity, revealed improved crack propagation resistance from pre-existing defects (ΔKth) for the STA825 condition compared to AN875. Notably, the presence of fine αs after aging for STA825 is effective in delaying crack nucleation and propagation at early stages, while refined αp contributes to hindering macrocrack growth. The fatigue behavior of the STA825-treated Ti6246 alloy was even superior to that of the PBF-LB-processed Ti64, representing a viable alternative for the production of high-performance components in the automotive and aerospace sectors. Corrosion fatigue damage significantly affects the long-term service of marine platforms such as propellers. Fatigue testing of pre-corrosion specimens is essential for understanding damage mechanisms and accurately predicting fatigue life. However, traditional seawater-based tests are time-consuming and yield inconsistent results, making them unsuitable for rapid evaluation of newly developed equipment. This study proposes an accelerated corrosion testing method for ZCuAl8Mn13Fe3Ni2 nickel–aluminum bronze, simulating the marine full immersion zone by increasing temperature, adding H2O2, reducing the solution pH, and preparing the special solution. Coupled with the fatigue test of pre-corrosion specimens, the corrosion damage characteristics and their influence on fatigue performance were analyzed. A numerical simulation method was developed to predict the fatigue life of pre-corrosion specimens, showing an average error of 13.82%. The S–N curves under different pre-corrosion cycles were also established. The research results show that using the test solution of 0.6 mol/L NaCl + 0.1 mol/L H3PO4-NaH2PO4 buffer solution + 1.0 mol/L H2O2 + 0.1 mL/500 mL concentrated hydrochloric acid for corrosion acceleration testing shows good corrosion acceleration. Moreover, the test methods ensure accuracy and reliability of the fatigue behavior evaluation of pre-corrosion specimens of the structure under actual service environments, offering a robust foundation for the material selection, corrosion resistance evaluation, and fatigue life prediction of marine structural components. This study introduces a time-efficient rotating bending fatigue testing system featuring 11 dual-end spindles, enabling simultaneous testing of 22 specimens. Designed for high-throughput fatigue life (S–N curve) assessment, the system theoretically allows over 93% reduction in total test duration, with 87.5% savings demonstrated in validation experiments using AISI 304 stainless steel. The PLC-based architecture provides autonomous operation, real-time failure detection, and automatic cycle logging. ER16 collet holders are easily replaceable within one minute, and all the components are selected from widely available industrial-grade parts to ensure ease of maintenance. The modular design facilitates straightforward adaptation to different station counts. The validation results confirmed an endurance limit of 421 MPa, which is consistent with the established literature and within ±5% deviation. Fractographic analysis revealed distinct crack initiation and propagation zones, supporting the observed fatigue behavior. This high-throughput methodology significantly improves testing efficiency and statistical reliability, offering a practical solution for accelerated fatigue life evaluation in structural, automotive, and aerospace applications. This work presents an innovative hydrothermal approach for fabricating flexible piezoelectric PZT thin films on 20 μm titanium foil substrates using TiO2 and SrTiO3 (STO) interlayers. Three heterostructures (Ti/PZT, Ti/TiO2/PZT, and Ti/TiO2/STO/PZT) were synthesized to enable low-temperature growth and improve ferroelectric performance for advanced flexible MEMS. Characterizations including XRD, PFM, and P–E loop analysis evaluated crystallinity, piezoelectric coefficient d33, and polarization behavior. The results demonstrate that the multilayered Ti/TiO2/STO/PZT structure significantly enhances performance. XRD confirmed the STO buffer layer effectively reduces lattice mismatch with PZT to ~0.76%, promoting stable morphotropic phase boundary (MPB) composition formation. This optimized film exhibited superior piezoelectric and ferroelectric properties, with a high d33 of 113.42 pm/V, representing an ~8.65% increase over unbuffered Ti/PZT samples, and displayed more uniform domain behavior in PFM imaging. Impedance spectroscopy showed the lowest minimum impedance of 8.96 Ω at 10.19 MHz, indicating strong electromechanical coupling. Furthermore, I–V measurements demonstrated significantly suppressed leakage currents in the STO-buffered samples, with current levels ranging from 10−12 A to 10−9 A over ±3 V. This structure also showed excellent fatigue endurance through one million electrical cycles, confirming its mechanical and electrical stability. These findings highlight the potential of this hydrothermally engineered flexible heterostructure for high-performance actuators and sensors in advanced MEMS applications. Full article

Aluminum–copper casting alloys are potential candidate materials for use in marine applications where high mechanical strength and superior fatigue resistance are desired. The corrosion and protection of aluminum alloy B206 in seawater through surface passivation continues to pose challenges, hampering its widespread use in marine structures. In this study, the electrochemical behavior of B206 is investigated in artificial seawater at temperatures and dissolved oxygen (DO) concentrations anticipated during service in marine environments. In particular, the influence of anodizing B206 in deaerated seawater on the subsequent corrosion behavior of the alloy is studied using potentiodynamic and potentiostatic polarization, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and Mott–Schottky analysis. The results showed that the effect of DO on the corrosion of B206 is more significant than the effect of temperature. In the absence of DO, results of potentiostatic polarization, EIS, and Mott–Schottky analysis at anodic potentials all indicated the development of a thicker, more protective passive layer in colder seawater. Moreover, passive layer thickness modeled using Power-Law was found to range between 3 and 9 nm, whilst decreasing in thickness with temperature. Donor densities of the n-type passive layer are on the order of 1021 cm−3 and increase with temperature. The findings presented in this study support the feasibility of implementing anodizing for B206 in marine service environments. Full article

Aging railroad bridges present complex challenges due to advancing deterioration and outdated design assumptions. This study develops a comprehensive analytical approach for assessing an aging steel truss railroad bridge through finite element (FE) modeling, sensitivity analysis, and model updating, supported by field testing. An initial FE model of the bridge was created based on original drawings and field observations. Field testing using a laser Doppler vibrometer captured the bridge’s dynamic response (vibrations and deflections) under regular train traffic. Key structural parameters (material properties, section properties, support conditions) were identified and varied in a sensitivity analysis to determine their influence on model outputs. A hybrid sensitivity analysis combining log-normal sampling and a genetic algorithm (GA) was employed to explore the parameter space and calibrate the model. The GA optimization tuned the FE model parameters to minimize discrepancies between simulated results and field measurements, focusing on vertical deflections and natural frequencies. The updated FE model showed significantly improved agreement with observed behavior; for example, vertical deflections under a representative train were matched within a few percent, and natural frequencies were accurately reproduced. This validated model provides a more reliable tool for predicting structural performance and fatigue life under various loading scenarios. The results demonstrate that integrating field data, sensitivity analysis, and model updating can greatly enhance the accuracy of structural assessments for aging railroad bridges, supporting more informed maintenance and management decisions. Asphalt pavement cracking is an important factor affecting its service life. Under certain conditions, the self-healing behavior of asphalt itself can repair pavement cracks. However, the self-healing ability of asphalt itself is limited. In order to strengthen the self-healing ability of asphalt, the microcapsule wrapped with a repair agent is pre-mixed into the asphalt mixture. When the crack occurs and spreads to the surface of the microcapsule, the microcapsule ruptures and the healing agent flows out to realize the self-healing of the crack. Current microcapsules are mostly prepared with healing agents and bio-oil as core materials, and their high-temperature resistance to rutting is poor. While the epoxy resin contains a three-membered cyclic ether, it can undergo ring-opening polymerization to bond and repair the asphalt matrix. In addition, research on microcapsules mainly focuses on the self-healing properties of microcapsule-modified asphalt. In fact, before adding microcapsules to asphalt to improve its self-healing performance, it is necessary to ensure that the asphalt has a good road performance. On this basis, the self-healing performance of asphalt is improved, thereby extending the service life of asphalt pavement. Therefore, two-component epoxy self-healing microcapsules (E-mic and G-mic) were first prepared in this paper. Then, a temperature scanning test, rheological test of bending beams, and linear amplitude scanning test were, respectively, conducted for the microcapsule/asphalt to evaluate its road performance, including the high-temperature performance, low-temperature crack resistance, and fatigue performance. Finally, the self-healing performance of microcapsules/asphalt was tested. The results showed that the self-developed epoxy self-healing microcapsules were well encapsulated and presented as spherical micron-sized particles. The average particle size of the E-mic was approximately 23.582 μm, while the average particle size of the G-mic was approximately 22.440 μm, exhibiting a good normal distribution. In addition, they can remain intact and unbroken under high-temperature conditions. The results of road performance tests indicated that the microcapsule/asphalt mixture exhibits an excellent high-temperature resistance to permanent deformation, low-temperature crack resistance, and fatigue resistance. The self-healing test demonstrated that the microcapsule/asphalt exhibited an excellent self-healing performance. When the microcapsule content was 4%, the self-healing rate reached its optimal level of 67.8%, which was 149.2% higher than that of the base asphalt. Full article

Natural polymers, polysaccharides, demonstrate piezoelectric behavior suitable for force sensor manufacturing. Carrageenan hydrogel film with α-iron oxide particles can act as a piezoelectric polysaccharide-based force sensor. The mechanical impact on the hydrogel caused by a falling ball shows the impact response time, which is measured in milliseconds. Repeating several experiments in a row shows the dynamics of fatigue, which does not reduce the speed of response to impact. Through the practical experiments, we sought to demonstrate how theoretical knowledge describes the hydrogel we elaborated, which works as a piezoelectric material. In addition to the theoretical basis, which includes the operation of the metal and metal oxide contact junction, the interaction between the metal oxide and the hydrogel surfaces, the paper presents the practical application of this knowledge to the complex hydrogel film. The simple calculations presented in this paper are intended to predict the hydrogel film’s characteristics and explain the results obtained during practical experiments. Carrageenan, as a low-cost and already widely used polysaccharide in various industries, is suitable for the production of low-cost force sensors in combination with iron oxide. Full article

This paper investigates the interplay between rubber network damage, carbon black (CB) network damage, heat exchange, and voiding mechanisms in filled Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) under cyclic loading. To do so, three carbon black filled SBR composites, SBR5, SBR30 and SBR60 are studied. The study aims to quantify molecular damage and its role in inducing reversible or irreversible heat flow and voiding behavior to inform the design of more resilient rubber composites with improved fatigue life and thermal management capabilities. The study effectively demonstrated how increasing carbon black content, particularly in SBR60, leads to a shift from mostly reversible to irreversible and cumulative damage mechanisms during cyclic loading, as evidenced by thermal, volumetric, and electrical resistivity changes. In particular, we identify a critical mechanical energy of 7 MJ.m−3 associated with such transition. These irreversible changes are strongly linked to the damage and re-arrangement of the carbon black filler network, as well as the rubber chains network and the formation/growth of voids, while reversible mechanisms are likely related to rubber chains alignment associated with entropic elasticity. With the deepening of the green and low-carbon concept in the field of road engineering, the cold construction asphalt pavement technology has developed rapidly due to its advantages such as low energy consumption, low pollution, and convenient construction. The adhesion between emulsified asphalt and aggregates, as a core factor affecting the performance of cold-mixed mixtures and the lifespan of the pavement, has attracted much attention in terms of its mechanism of action and evaluation methods. However, at present, there are still many issues that need to be addressed in terms of the stability control of adhesion between emulsified asphalt and aggregates, the explanation of the microscopic mechanism, and the standardization of testing methods in complex environments. These problems restrict the further promotion and application of the cold construction technology. Based on this, this paper systematically analyzes the current development status, application scenarios, and future trends of the theory and testing methods of the adhesion between emulsified asphalt and aggregates by reviewing a large number of relevant studies. The research aims to provide theoretical support and practical references for the improvement of adhesion in the cold construction asphalt pavement technology. Research shows that in terms of the adhesion mechanism, the existing results have deeply analyzed the infiltration and demulsification adhesion process of emulsified asphalt on the surface of aggregates and clarified the key links of physical and chemical interactions, but the understanding of the microscopic interface behavior and molecular-scale mechanism is still insufficient. In terms of testing methods, although objective and subjective evaluation methods such as mechanical tensile tests, surface energy evaluation, and adhesion fatigue tests have been developed, the standardization of testing, data comparability, and practical engineering applicability still need to be optimized. Comprehensive analysis shows that the research on the adhesion between emulsified asphalt and aggregates is showing a trend from macroscopic to microscopic, from static to dynamic. There are challenges in predicting and controlling the adhesion performance under complex environments, as well as important opportunities for developing advanced characterization techniques and multiscale simulation methods.
