Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The proposed Special Issue will focus on the impact of viruses on the kidney. Viruses can cause a diverse range of kidney injuries—from mild proteinuria to severe, life-threatening renal failure—through direct infection, immune-mediated mechanisms, and systemic effects. The impact is particularly pronounced in immunosuppressed individuals and those with underlying kidney or systemic disease. We believe this topic is both timely and highly relevant to the readership of Virology, promising to attract significant research contributions from experts in the field.

We will ensure that all submissions are subject to a robust and impartial peer review process, in line with the journal’s policies and ethical standards. Our editorial team is committed to maintaining a transparent, fair, and efficient review process, as well as fostering a supportive environment for authors and reviewers.

Research areas may include, but are not limited to:

  1. Pathogenesis of virus-associated nephropathy;
  2. BK polyomavirus nephropathy in kidney transplant recipients;
  3. COVID-19 and kidney disease: acute and long-term implications;
  4. Hepatitis B and C virus-associated glomerular diseases;
  5. HIV-associated nephropathy (HIVAN) and beyond;
  6. Emerging and zoonotic viruses causing kidney disease;
  7. Diagnostic advances in virus-associated nephropathy;
  8. Virus-induced kidney complications in immunocompromised hosts;
  9. Paediatric perspectives: virus-related nephropathy in children;
  10. Antiviral and immunomodulatory therapy in virus-associated nephropathy.

We look forward to working closely with you, contributing to the continued success of the journal on this Special Issue.

Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process.
