Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Ten years after the first direct detection of gravitational waves, gravitational-wave astronomy has become one of the most exciting frontiers in modern physics and astronomy. What began as a milestone in the experimental test of general relativity has rapidly developed into a powerful probe of black holes, neutron stars, strong-field gravity, cosmology, and the early universe.

With upgraded detectors, improved waveform modeling, and advanced data-analysis methods, the field has entered an era of precision science, opening new possibilities for discovery while raising important questions about source populations, astrophysical environments, cosmological inference, and fundamental physics. This makes the present moment especially timely for a focused collection that reflects on the achievements of the past decade and explores future directions.

This Special Issue aims to present and disseminate the most recent advances related to gravitational-wave astronomy since GW150914. We welcome contributions addressing theoretical, observational, computational, and instrumental aspects of the field, as well as interdisciplinary connections to astrophysics, cosmology, and fundamental physics.

Topics of interest for publication include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Detector technology and future observatories;
  • Multimessenger astronomy;
  • Gravitational-wave source modeling;
  • Gravitational-wave data analysis;
  • Black hole and neutron star astrophysics;
  • Tests of general relativity and alternative theories of gravity;
  • Gravitational-wave cosmology;
  • Early-universe and particle-physics implications.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. Universe is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
