Exploring the Antibacterial, Anti-Inflammatory and Antioxidant Properties of Natural Products in Drug Discovery and Development

Dear Colleagues,

Natural products have been a rich source of bioactive compounds for centuries, offering alternative or complementary therapy for myriads of chronic ailments including bacterial infections, inflammation, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative disorders, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and many more. Numerous compounds of natural products are currently being used in pre-clinical and clinical studies, and have been instrumental in the drug discovery pipeline. Indeed, the demand for natural product medicines is substantial and continues to grow due to their pharmacological activities, low toxicity, global market size, consumer preferences, primary health care, and integration with traditional medicine. The interest in natural products research has been revitalized lately due to scientific and technological advancements, which have helped to better address the previously unappreciated questions. Apparently, exploring the science behind the use of natural products in traditional medicines is indeed crucial for discovering potential candidates that can have a positive impact on society and humanity.

This Special Issue on “Exploring the antibacterial, anti-Inflammatory and antioxidant properties of natural products in drug discovery and development” aims to compile recent scientific discoveries and advances in natural products research focusing on drug discovery and development. We seek high-quality research work spanning full-length original research articles, concise research communications, and comprehensive reviews, covering diverse areas such as isolation, characterization, biological activities, and pharmacological and toxicological properties of natural products.

We also aim to investigate the mechanisms of action of natural products and their isolates relevant to human health and disease, exploring biochemical pathways.

Investigations include, but are not limited to, antioxidant, anticancer, antidiabetic, antimicrobial, anti-hypertensive, anti-inflammatory and wound healing activities. Implementing in vitro, in silico, and in vivo studies are highly encouraged.
