The Role of Functional Food Intake in Chronic Disease Prevention
This special issue belongs to the section “Phytochemicals and Human Health“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Chronic diseases, notably cancer, cardiovascular diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, neurological conditions, and obesity, pose a significant global health burden, contributing substantially to mortality and diminished quality of life. Functional foods, enriched with bioactive components beyond basic nutrition, offer considerable potential for preventing and managing these diseases by modulating key pathways such as inflammation and oxidative stress. Nevertheless, critical challenges remain, including the need to substantiate health claims through rigorous clinical evidence, clarify their underlying mechanisms of action, and ensure consistent bioavailability and long-term safety.
This Special Issue aims to gather cutting-edge research at the forefront of functional food science for chronic disease prevention. We invite original research, reviews that establish evidence-based dietary strategies, pinpoint specific intervention targets, and explore novel bioactive compounds, directly advancing the practical role of functional foods in preventing chronic diseases.
