Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce the publication of a Special Issue of Nanomaterials focusing on the latest advancements in “Plasmonic Nanoparticle-based Platforms for Efficient (Bio)Sensing”. The field of nanotechnology has evolved rapidly, leveraging advances in nanofabrication, surface chemistry, and analytical techniques. Metallic nanoparticles are excellent candidates for signal transducers due to their localized surface plasmon resonance (LSPR) property, enabling exceptional light–matter interactions and strong signal enhancements that are particularly advantageous for biosensing and chemical detection in various applications. These include point-of-care diagnostics, environmental monitoring, pathogen detection, and others. The ability of nanoparticles to immobilize different substrates and/or integrate into hybrid nanosystems and devices leads to the development of robust sensors that exhibit features such as high sensitivity and specificity towards target analytes, miniaturization, portability, flexibility, and accessibility in terms of fabrication and implementation costs. These advantages have paved the way for plasmonic nanoparticle-based sensors to translate from “proof-of-concept” to versatile point-of-care, lab-on-skin, and wearable technologies, proving their high potential as diagnostic and monitoring tools.

Given the continuous progress made in the development of plasmonic nanoparticle-based (bio)sensors and their design, this Special Issue aims to bring together cutting-edge developments in the field of innovative and versatile plasmonic nanoplatforms for efficient and specific biodetection and chemical sensing from biomedical to environmental applications.

We welcome submissions that explore, but are not limited to, the following topics:

  • Innovative synthesis and surface modification strategies for plasmonic nanoparticles.
  • Studies on plasmonic signal amplification for enhanced detection.
  • The integration of plasmonic nanoparticles into state-of-the-art biosensing platforms.
  • Multiplexed and miniaturized plasmonic sensors for (bio)medical and chemical sensing.
  • Micro/nanofluidic and lateral flow assays.
  • Wearable biosensor designs integrating plasmonic nanoparticles as signal transducers.

In addition, we invite the submission of high-quality original research articles presenting novel experimental and/or theoretical studies, as well as comprehensive review articles that provide critical insights into the current state and future directions of the field of nanotechnology.

We look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
