Metallic Nanoparticles in Biomedical Applications

Metallic nanoparticles, from gold and silver to iron oxide and platinum, represent a powerful frontier in precision medicine, offering groundbreaking opportunities for diagnosis, targeted treatment, and real-time disease monitoring.  Gold nanoparticles, with their unique plasmonic features, allow for ultra-sensitive detection of disease biomarkers. Silver nanoparticles offer potent antimicrobial action, making them ideal for use in wound dressings and infection-resistant medical devices. Iron oxide nanoparticles play a vital role in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), delivering sharper contrast for more accurate diagnoses. In cutting-edge treatments like photothermal therapy, metal nanoparticles absorb light and convert it into heat, precisely targeting and destroying cancer cells or pathogens. The versatility and functionality of metallic nanoparticles continue to drive innovation across biomedical and environmental sciences. Yet, despite their promise, challenges such as potential toxicity and long-term stability remain, highlighting the need for continued research and innovation.

This Special Issue aims to showcase cutting-edge research from leading experts in the field of nanoparticles and nanomaterials. We welcome contributions focused on (i) biomedical applications—including drug delivery, proteomics, molecular imaging probes, biosensors, genomics, hyperthermia therapy, and antimicrobial strategies—and (ii) environmental applications such as bioremediation, as well as novel tools for detecting and quantifying pharmaceuticals, contaminants, fertilizers, antibiotics, and toxic metals.

We invite researchers to submit original articles and comprehensive reviews that explore fundamental principles, practical applications, and emerging directions in this rapidly evolving discipline.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Molecules is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
