Novel Image Analysis for Dental Materials Application

Dear Colleagues,

Significant improvement of medical imaging modalities has been seen in the last decade. Simultaneously, classical image-processing methods were challenged by the artificial-intelligence-based algorithms, providing similar—or frequently better—results than the currently used solutions. These technological improvements inspired the development of several novel medical diagnostic and treatment methods in the field of dental care. 

This Special Issue intends to collect the most recent results in the area of dental diagnostics and treatment and the related technological and medical fields. Special attention will be given to the application of artificial-intelligence-based methods, including deep-learning solutions and convolutional neural networks. Comparison of the application of these techniques with traditional solutions is warmly welcome. Methods using geometrical models of bone structures and facilitating patient-specific treatment are also in accordance with the main focus of this Special Issue.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
