Robots are increasingly present in our daily lives, with varied applications. Among these applications, the robots under development for applications in medicine and rehabilitation of the human body stand out.
With the advancement of miniaturization, computer processing capacity, and artificial intelligence, the use of robots in medicine is growing every day. Today, robots are being used in different types of surgeries. The great challenge in the use of robots in medicine is the need for training and the cost of equipment. New ideas and applications in traditional or unexplored fields in the application of robotics in medicine will be explored in this Special Issue.
Robots are also revolutionizing the practice of human body rehabilitation. The population is aging worldwide, and, with increasing age, various diseases begin to appear, such as neurological problems and muscle weakness, among others. It also highlights the different types of accidents that may lead to the need for rehabilitation. In recent decades, several researchers have developed different types of structures for the rehabilitation of the human body, but few of these devices manage to reach the market and patients. However, more efforts are still needed in the development of robotic structures applied to rehabilitation that reaches many patients.
The primary focus of this Special Issue is to present cutting edge robotic solutions to boost the medical and rehabilitation process, aiming to highlight recent advances in the development of these robotic devices.
Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Review medical robots;
- Review rehabilitation robots;
- Medical robots;
- Rehabilitation and assistive robotics;
- Human-machine interfaces in medical robots and rehabilitation;
- Virtual reality applied to medicine;
- Serious games applied to rehabilitation;
- Advanced prosthetics;
- Wearable devices.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
