Advances in Pulmonary Embolism Therapeutic

Dear Colleagues,

Pulmonary embolism (PE), both in its acute and chronic forms, continues to represent a major challenge in respiratory and cardiovascular medicine. Significant advances in diagnostic strategies, anticoagulation, interventional therapies, and surgical management have transformed the prognosis of this complex condition. Moreover, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) has emerged as a critical area where therapeutic innovation—including balloon pulmonary angioplasty, pulmonary endarterectomy, and optimized perioperative critical care—continues to improve outcomes.

We are pleased to invite you to contribute to this Special Issue, which aims to provide an updated, comprehensive, and clinically oriented overview of current and emerging therapeutic approaches to acute and chronic pulmonary embolism, as well as chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. This topic aligns closely with the aims and scope of the Journal of Clinical Medicine, offering an excellent opportunity to gather high-quality clinical evidence and expert perspectives in the field.

This Special Issue aims to highlight recent progress in pharmacological therapy, catheter-directed strategies, balloon pulmonary angioplasty, pulmonary endarterectomy, and perioperative and critical care management. We welcome contributions that deepen our understanding of therapeutic pathways, identify new clinical challenges, and help shape future standards of care.

In this Special Issue, original research articles and reviews are welcome.

Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Pharmacological treatment of acute and chronic pulmonary embolism;
• Catheter-directed therapy;
• Balloon pulmonary angioplasty;
• Pulmonary endarterectomy;
• Critical care management in acute PE and postoperative CTEPH patients;
• Advances in imaging for therapeutic decision-making.
