Molecular Research on Electrolytes for Energy Storage Systems

This special issue belongs to the section “Materials Science“.

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

To be in line with worldwide initiatives such as Horizon 2030+ and Battery 2030+, it is important to develop sustainable energy storage systems. Much research has been carried out on electrode materials. However, many parameters including safety and cost limit their development. Working on electrolytes looks more challenging and offers a wider range of possibilities to move towards greener solutions conforming to the expected sustainable development.

This Special Issue aims to provide a panel of recent advances in the formulation of electrolytes (including liquid, gel, and solid types). Aqueous and organic electrolytes will be considered as organic additives as polymers, metal–organic frameworks, covalent organic frameworks and bio-inspired additives will be introduced. Innovative electrolytes are expected to increase the electrochemical potential window. In addition to the full characterization of the electrolyte, the well-understood phenomena of the interface between electrolytes and electrodes and/or separators should be highlighted whenever possible. The simultaneous presence of all these aspects in the same study is not mandatory. We welcome contributions with a particular focus on, but not limited to, the sustainable formulation of electrolytes for sodium or magnesium batteries.

For this Special Issue of IJMS, entitled “Molecular Research on Electrolytes for Energy Storage Systems”, we welcome your contributions in the form of original research articles and critical reviews on the molecular aspects of electrolytes.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. International Journal of Molecular Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. There is an Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal. For details about the APC please see here. Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
