Dear Colleagues,
Plants are constantly exposed to a myriad of environmental challenges, including abiotic stresses such as drought, salinity, and extreme temperatures, as well as biotic stresses like pathogens and pests. These stresses often occur simultaneously, leading to complex interactions that significantly impact plant growth, development, and productivity. Understanding the mechanisms by which plants perceive, respond, and adapt to these combined stresses is crucial for developing resilient crops that can withstand the unpredictable effects of climate change. This special issue aims to explore the intricate interplay between abiotic and biotic stresses, focusing on the molecular, physiological, and genetic mechanisms that underpin plant stress tolerance. By shedding light on these processes, we can pave the way for innovative strategies to enhance crop resilience and ensure global food security.
We invite researchers to submit their original research articles, reviews, and short communications that address the following key topics:
1) Signal pathways and regulatory networks involved in stress perception and adaptation.
2) Functional identification and characterization of key genes responsible for plant stress tolerance.
3) Applications of multi-omics technologies, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, to unravel the complexities of plant stress biology.
4) Investigation of the crosstalk between defense responses to abiotic and biotic stresses.
5) Regulatory mechanism of small molecule-based biostimulants that enhance crop tolerance to abiotic and biotic challenges
Submissions that explore the role of epigenetic modifications, stress memory, and transgenerational effects on the growth, development, and quality of horticultural crops under stress conditions are particularly encouraged. By bringing together diverse perspectives and cutting-edge research, this special issue aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of plant stress biology and its implications for sustainable agriculture.
