Natural and Human-Induced Impacts on Plankton
This special issue belongs to the section "Environmental Science and Engineering".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The role of planktonic communities is key in the aquatic trophic webs. The current changes in the aquatic systems are affecting plankton communities’ spatial distribution, seasonality, structure, and productivity in different ways. In this context, the threats on this component of the aquatic systems are increasing and the methodologies and approaches used in researching need to evolve in order to capture the complexity. Causes and consequences of natural and human induced impacts on plankton communities need to be understood, from atmospheric dust deposition, exotic species introduction, climate, change, agrochemical pollution, to microplastics exposure. This increase in knowledge should promote conservation and management programs that help to reduce the impacts. Papers related to these or similar topics are welcome in this Special Issue.
