Section Information

The Geophysics Section of Geosciences publishes original, high-quality research papers, notes, comments, and reviews covering the full breadth of geophysical sciences. The Section promotes the advancement of knowledge related to the structure, physical properties, dynamics, and processes of the solid Earth, the hydrosphere, and the cryosphere. We welcome contributions spanning observational, applied, numerical, statistical, and theoretical approaches, with particular emphasis on novel methodologies, original datasets, and results of broad relevance to the earthscience community.

The Section welcomes submissions in, but is not limited to, the following areas:

Geophysical Data Science and Signal Processing: Statistical, inverse, computational, machine learning, and signal processing methods for geophysical applications.

Electromagnetic Geophysics: Magnetotellurics, electrical and electromagnetic imaging, radar, and related methods.

Hydrogeophysics: Geophysical characterization and monitoring of subsurface hydrological processes.

Marine Geophysics: Geophysical investigations of the seafloor, oceanic crust, and ocean–solid Earth interactions.

Seismology and Earthquake Physics: Earthquake processes, seismic imaging, hazard assessment, and crustal deformation.

Volcanic Geophysics: Geophysical monitoring and modeling of volcanic systems and related hazards.

Mineral Physics: Physical properties and behavior of minerals and Earth materials under a wide range of pressure and temperature conditions, with applications to Earth and planetary interiors.

Geodesy and Gravity: GNSS, gravimetry, Earth deformation, and mass transport studies.

Geomagnetism and Paleomagnetism: Earth’s magnetic field, rock magnetism, and paleomagnetic reconstructions.

Geothermics: The thermal structure of the Earth and geothermal resource characterization.

The list above is indicative rather than exhaustive. Interdisciplinary contributions are particularly welcome, where geophysical observations, methods, or modeling provide new insights into broader geological, environmental, hydrological, volcanic, or planetary processes.
