Spread and Damage of Invasive Forest Insects

Dear Colleagues,

Invasive forest insects have had a significant impact on forests worldwide. The current process of globalization and the climate change situation raise the risk of insect invasions and forces us to face a great challenge for biodiversity and ecosystem stability. Non-native insects have demonstrated comparative advantages over native insects. They disrupt coevolutionary interactions, evading predators, pathogens and parasitoids and/or exploiting new food sources, which further leads to unpredictable trophic cascade effects. Consequently, biodiversity, forest production, the economic viability of forest ecosystems and, eventually, human health are under threat.

This Special Issue aims to synthesize current understandings of the mechanisms and consequences of alien insects on forestry systems. We welcome articles that address ecology, biodiversity, prevention and early detection, management and mitigation, food security, forest production, economic consequences and human health in relation to the spread of invasive species.

Submitted manuscripts must be original contributions and should not be previously published work. Papers published or submitted for publication in conference proceedings may be considered, provided that they are considerably extended and improved.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Forests is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
