Artificial Intelligence, Digital Twins and Intelligent Operation for Water Infrastructure
This special issue belongs to the section "Chemical, Civil and Environmental Engineering".
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
Water infrastructure—including dams, levees, reservoirs, canals, water supply systems, and irrigation networks—is facing increasing challenges arising from climate change, aging facilities, growing operational complexity, and rising demands for safety, resilience, and sustainability. Recent advances in artificial intelligence (AI), digital twin technologies, sensing systems, and intelligent operation provide unprecedented opportunities to transform the planning, monitoring, maintenance, and management of water infrastructure throughout its life cycle.
This Special Issue aims to present the latest research and technological developments in AI-driven and digital twin-enabled approaches for intelligent water infrastructure. Original research articles, review papers, and case studies are welcome. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, artificial intelligence and machine learning, digital twins for water infrastructure, structural health monitoring, intelligent inspection and maintenance, remote sensing, reliability and probabilistic assessment, risk analysis and uncertainty quantification, predictive maintenance, resilience assessment, life-cycle management, data/mechanism driven modeling and simulation, robotics and autonomous inspection, decision support systems, climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction, economic assessment and policy decision-making for water infrastructure and water-related disasters, and smart operation and management of water infrastructure.
By bringing together innovative methodologies, supporting theories, and practical engineering applications, this Special Issue seeks to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and accelerate the development of intelligent, resilient, and sustainable water infrastructure. We warmly invite researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government agencies to contribute their latest findings and share their valuable experiences.

Manuscript Submission Information
Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-anonymized peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Eng is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
