Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Optimization techniques are becoming attractive nowadays for applications in energy systems. The rising energy costs, the need to reduce carbon emissions, and the integration of renewable energy sources are a few factors that render the energy system increasingly complex. The ability of optimization methods to achieve optimal solutions in terms of costs and performances has gathered increasing attention from the industry. Developing optimization approaches focusing on trading off contradicting objectives, satisfying various constraints, and reducing the effect of uncertainties are significant challenges for design and operation of up-to-date energy systems.

This Special Issue aims to collect studies on state-of-the-art optimization approaches and applications in complex energy systems. New theoretical developments, analysis tools, and novel applications with the ongoing evolution of energy system optimization are particularly welcome. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Efficient numerical methods for the optimization of complex problems;
  2. Multi-objective optimization for treating different objectives;
  3. Optimal control of distributed energy systems;
  4. Mixed-integer optimization for design and operation energy systems;
  5. Stochastic optimization of energy systems with uncertainties;
  6. Practical applications of energy systems using optimization;
  7. Design, analysis, and performance improvement using hybrid optimization approaches;
  8. Real-time optimization of energy systems.

I look forward to receiving your contributions.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Energies is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
