Infectious Disease in Pregnancy
This special issue belongs to the section “Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Special Issue “Infectious Diseases in Pregnancy” will collect articles related to the various aspects of pregnancies affected by microbiological aggressions. Having a particular immunological status, the pregnant women could develop unusual reactions to different infections, and the consequences could be difficult to predict. Moreover, fetus protection depends greatly on the maternal–fetal barrier represented by placenta and, therefore, congenital intrauterine infections are mainly defined as risks that are difficult to diagnose prenatally.
The outbreak of the COVID 19 pandemic as well as other viral or microbial infections provide interesting aspects regarding epidemiological and risk factors, immunological aspects, difficulties of diagnostic and management options. This Special Issue will therefore focus on the pathogenesis and management of both maternal infections and fetal intrauterine infections.
Cohort clinical studies, cross-sectional randomized studies of clinical evolution, reviews of technical developments of in vitro diagnostics, and laboratory accuracy of diagnostic methods are the main types of articles of interest for this Special Issue.
Clinical studies will also be evaluated according to the soundness of the statistical methodology use to support the conclusion of the study. Reviews should conclude with an outlook, open questions, and directions for future research.
We invite suggestions for manuscripts to be included in this Special Issue. Please contact the editors before preparing the manuscript regarding the topic coverage.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.
Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Diagnostics is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs).
