Bio-Innovation and Inclusion: Scientific Advances in Dermocosmetics, Hair, and Skin Care Derived from Brazilian Sources
This special issue belongs to the section “Cosmetic Formulations“.
Special Issue Information
Dear Colleagues,
The Brazilian cosmetic industry is fundamentally scientifically shaped by its immense biodiversity and a powerful consumer-led demand for both inclusivity and sustainability. Brazil’s unique position as a leading global cosmetic market is intrinsically linked to the Amazon, driving a vital shift toward ethical sourcing and bioactives. The market is increasingly reliant on socio-biodiversity supply chains that utilize natural ingredients. This transition is not only ecological but ethical. Brands are moving away from conventional formulations; the demand for natural/organic ingredients is forecasted to grow at a faster rate than the overall market. Certification schemes validate that sourcing promotes the conservation of biodiversity and provides equitable benefits to local populations, turning environmental stewardship into a commercial differentiator. The massive market growth is underpinned by social movements, particularly the "hair transition" trend. With over 55% of the population identifying as Black or mixed-race, the demand for high-quality, targeted products for textured hair is a major commercial imperative. Local powerhouses capitalized on this by creating accessible, inclusive product ranges that meet specific consumer needs. This inclusivity ensures massive volume growth, demonstrating that prioritizing diverse consumer needs, supported by sustainable supply chains, is the most profitable path in the modern Brazilian beauty landscape. High-quality scientific papers aligned with advances in dermocosmetics, hair and skin-care developments from Brazilian sources are highly welcome and essential to driving this sector forward
