Neonatal Hemodynamics: From Advanced Monitoring to Improved Physiology-Driven Care

Neonatal hemodynamics is an essential and rapidly advancing area of neonatal and perinatal medicine. As our understanding of transitional circulation evolves, new technologies—including neonatal echocardiography, near-infrared spectroscopy, and non-invasive and mini-invasive cardiac output monitoring—have transformed how clinicians assess cardiovascular function in newborns. These innovations offer unprecedented opportunities to guide therapies and personalize care, yet significant challenges remain in standardizing monitoring strategies and translating physiologic insights into consistent clinical practice.

This Special Issue, “Neonatal Hemodynamics: From Advanced Monitoring to Improved Physiology-Driven Care”, aims to bring together multidisciplinary expertise to highlight current knowledge, emerging tools, and future directions in this field. We welcome contributions that deepen the understanding of circulatory physiology in both term and preterm infants, explore the hemodynamic impact of common neonatal conditions, or introduce novel approaches to bedside assessment.

We invite original research, clinical studies, reviews, methodological papers, and technology-focused manuscripts addressing neonatal cardiovascular monitoring, hemodynamic-guided therapy, and precision neonatal care.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 250 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for assessment.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Children is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
