| 1998 | The inaugural print issue was released. Kardiovaskuläre Medizin became the official journal of the Swiss Society of Angiology, the Swiss Society of Hypertension, the Swiss Society of Cardiology, and the Swiss Pediatric Cardiology Society and was published monthly. It accepted articles in German, French, and English. |
| 2004 | EMH Swiss Medical Publishers continued the publication of the journal under an open-access model (CC-BY-NC-ND). |
| 2010 | The journal published articles exclusively in English. |
| 2019 | The journal adopted a bimonthly publication schedule |
| 2021 | Cardiovascular Medicine was indexed in Scopus. |
| 2022 | Cardiovascular Medicine became the official journal of the Swiss Society of Cardiac Surgery. |
| 2024 | The journal discontinued publication because its previous publisher, EMH Swiss Medical Publishers, ceased operations. |
| 2025 |
MDPI acquired Cardiovascular Medicine and continued its publication quarterly from Volume 28, Issue 1 (2025). The Swiss Society of Perfusion (SSoP) became affiliated to Cardiovascular Medicine. |
| 2026 | The Swiss Society of Cardiac Surgery (SGHC/SSCC) became affiliated with Cardiovascular Medicine. |
