Thermal Analysis

A section of Analytica (ISSN 2673-4532).

Section Information

Thermal analysis is a fundamental branch of analytical chemistry, comprising a group of techniques in which a physical property of a substance and/or its reaction product(s) is measured as a function of temperature, whilst the substance is subjected to a controlled temperature programme. These techniques provide critical insights into thermal stability, decomposition pathways, phase transitions of substances and even reaction kinetics.

The scope of this section includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Differential Scanning Calorimetry;
  • Differential Thermal Analysis;
  • Thermogravimetry;
  • Evolved Gas Analysis;
  • Thermoptometry;
  • Novel experimental techniques or instrumentation for thermal analysis.
