Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The Soil–Ecosystem–Crop Nexus represents a critical interface at which the interactions among soil health, ecosystem functionality, and crop productivity converge. This nexus highlights the necessity of understanding the biophysical and biochemical processes that govern nutrient availability, soil structure, and microbial diversity. Recent trends underscore the role of engineering solutions—such as precision agriculture technologies and sustainable soil management practices—in optimizing these interactions. Resilience in agricultural productivity is contingent not only on soil fertility but also on the adaptability of cropping systems to climate variability and ecological stressors. Innovative engineering approaches, such as the development of soil moisture retention systems and crop management technologies, have demonstrated significant potential in strengthening crop resilience. These techniques aim to create dynamic and adaptive agro-ecosystems capable of withstanding environmental fluctuations.

Collectively, the integration of engineering innovations within the Soil–Ecosystem–Crop Nexus signifies a paradigm shift toward sustainable agricultural practices that enhance productivity while promoting long-term ecological balance. The forthcoming Special Issue titled "Soil–Ecosystem–Crop Nexus: Innovative Engineering Approaches for Enhancing Soil Fertility and Resilience in Agricultural Productivity" seeks to address the multifaceted challenges presented by contemporary agricultural practices. This Special Issue emphasizes engineering approaches to elucidating how technological advancements can bolster soil health and enhance crop robustness. Contributions to this issue are anticipated to provide insights into the mechanisms underlying the interplay between soil ecosystems and agricultural productivity.

This Special Issue invites original research, reviews, and case studies that delve into various aspects of crop-soil engineering approaches and sustainable soil management in sustainable crop production systems.
