2014	Photonics released its inaugural issue and was published as a quarterly journal.
2016	Photonics was indexed in Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1). Photonics published 21 papers in the Special Issue on Quantum Cascade Lasers—Advances and New Applications, edited by Photonics Editorial Board member, Prof. Dr. Manijeh Razeghi.
2017	Photonics was indexed in Scopus (Elsevier), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1).
2018	Photonics received its first CiteScore of 1.96 (2017 Scopus data).
2019	Photonics was indexed in Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE)—Web of Science (Clarivate Analytics), starting with Volume 1 (Issue 1). Photonics’s CiteScore (2018 Scopus data) was 2.16.
2020	Photonics’s CiteScore (2019 Scopus data) was 2.90. Photonics received its first Impact Factor: 2.140, ranking 48/97 (Q2) in the category ‘OPTICS’. The journal was divided into eight topical sections: Biophotonics and Biomedical Optics, Optical Communication and Network, Optoelectronics and Optical Materials, Lasers, Light Sources and Sensors, Optical Interaction Science, Quantum Photonics and Technologies, Data-Science Based Techniques in Photonics, New Applications Enabled by Photonics Technologies and Systems. Prof. Dr. Sergio Fantini was nominated as Associate Editor by the Editor-in-Chief.
2021	Photonics changed to a monthly publication schedule. Photonics’s CiteScore (2020 Scopus data) was 3.50. Photonics received an increased Impact Factor of 2.676, ranking 37th out of 99 (Q2) in the category 'OPTICS'.
2022	Photonics’s CiteScore (2021 Scopus data) was 2.3. Photonics received its Impact Factor (2021) of 2.536, 5-Year Impact Factor (2021) of 2.302.
2023	Photonics’s CiteScore (2022 Scopus data) was 2.3. Photonics received its Impact Factor (2022) of 2.4, 5-Year Impact Factor (2022) of 2.4.
2024	The year 2024 marked the 10th Anniversary of Photonics. Photonics received its CiteScore (2023) of 2.6. Photonics received its 2024 Impact Factor (2.1). Photonics organized the The 1st International Online Conference on Photonics—A Celebration of the 10th Anniversary of Photonics: Exploring Cutting-Edge Technologies and Applications of Optics and Photonics.
2025	Photonics was indexed in Ei Compendex (Elsevier), starting with Volume 12 (Issue 3). Photonics received its CiteScore (2024) of 3.5. Photonics received its 2025 Impact Factor (1.9).
