The International Conference on Green Environmental Engineering and Technology (IConGEET) is an annual event organized by the Sustainable Environment Research Group (SERG), a sub-research group under the Centre of Excellence Geopolymer and Green Technology (CEGeoGTech), Universiti Malaysia Perlis, and co-organized by the National Institute for Research and Development in Environmental Protection (INCDPM), Bucharest, Romania. IConGEET aims to bring together researchers, practitioners, engineers, and students from around the globe to foster networking, exchange knowledge, and share innovative ideas.
The 6th IConGEET2024, themed “Shaping Sustainable Future: Exploring Strategies for Green Technology”, took place as a hybrid conference on 29th and 30th of August 2024 in Bali, Indonesia. This event continued the tradition of gathering experts to explore strategies for advancing green technology. The conference covered a wide range of topics, including environmental pollution monitoring, management and protection, risk assessment, and green technologies.
The opening ceremony (
Figure 1) of the conference featured several distinguished speakers who shared their insights on pressing environmental issues. Dr. Alexander Egorov from Sirius University of Science and Technology, Russia, delivered a keynote address on “Environmental Pollutants and Metabolic Diseases”. Associate Professor Dr. Acep Purqon from the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB), Indonesia, discussed “Sustainable Hybrid Renewable Energy for Remote Areas in Indonesia”. Another keynote speaker, Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Remy Rozainy Mohd Arif Zainol from Universiti Sains Malaysia, presented on “Pioneering Sustainable Drainage Systems”.
Invited speakers included Deák Gyorgy Habil (PhD) and Dr. Monica Matei from INCDPM, Romania, who spoke on applying EU Green Taxonomy principles to preserve biodiversity, particularly focusing on wild sturgeon populations. Associate Professor Dr. Noor Hana Hanif Abu Bakar from Universiti Sains Malaysia presented on the design of nanocomposites for the enhanced removal of organic contaminants. Additionally, Associate Professor Dr. Anurita Selvarajoo from the University of Nottingham Malaysia highlighted the sustainable transformation of palm oil waste into green building materials, while Dr. Razi Ahmad from Universiti Malaysia Perlis discussed the co-gasification of pre-treated palm waste and low-rank coal.
The 6th IConGEET2024 was honored to have the guidance and leadership of esteemed individuals in its organizing committee. The Honorary Chair of the conference was Dato’ Prof. Ts Dr. Zaliman Sauli, Vice Chancellor of Universiti Malaysia Perlis. Serving as Advisors were Assoc. Prof. Ir Dr. Shayfull Zamree Ab Rahim (UniMAP, Malaysia) and Eng. DEÁK György, Ph.D. Habil (National Institute for Research and Development in Environmental Protection—INCDPM, Romania). The conference was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Norazian Mohamed Noor (UniMAP). The Technical Committee included Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr. Sam Sung Ting, Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr. Ragunathan, Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr. Irnis Azura Zakarya, Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr. Sara Yasina, Ir Ts Dr. Nyr Anira Asyikin binti Hashim, Ts Dr. Norlia Mohamad Ibrahim, Dr. Nur Liza Rahim, Dr. Roshazita Che Amat, Dr. Norazrin Ramli (all from UniMAP), Dr. Madalina Boboc (INCDPM, Romania), Assoc. Prof. Sandu Andrei Victor (Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi, Romania), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andriana Surleva (University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy—UCTM, Bulgaria), Prof. Dr. Aeslina Abdul Kadir (Universiti Tun Hussain Onn Malaysia—UTHM), Assoc. Prof. Ts Dr Ahmad Zia Ul Saufie (Universiti Teknologi MARA—UiTM), and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mohd Remy Rozainy Mohd Arif Zainol (Universiti Sains Malaysia—USM). Their combined expertise and dedication were instrumental in the success of IConGEET2024.
With such a diverse and insightful range of presentations, IConGEET2024 continues to serve as a vital platform for exploring cutting-edge solutions for a greener future. With more than 60 papers, IConGEET2024 included 3 keynote speakers, 5 invited speakers, 18 papers presented physically, and 37 papers presented online. IConGEET2024 submitted for three publications including (i) Environmental Sciences Proceedings (open access journal), (ii) E3S Web of Conference (Scopus indexed proceeding) and, (iii) International Journal of Conservation Science (Scopus indexed journal). As for the distribution of papers, there were 51% from Malaysia, 30% from Romania, 13% from Indonesia, 3% from Uzbekistan, 1.5% from Iraq, and 1.5% from Russia.
