Alloys, Volume 5, Issue 3
2026 September - 11 articles
Cover Story: High-entropy alloys (HEAs) have emerged as a versatile family of multi-component complex metals with outstanding promise in both electrocatalysis and corrosion resistance, and a broad composition enables tailored properties. The roles of phase formation, coatings, thin films, surface reconstruction, and passive-film behavior in performance and durability are examined, with increasing involvement of CALPHAD, DFT, and machine learning. The review concludes that the development of HEAs is not based on adding more components but understanding how each component, phase, and surface alteration adds to the stability, efficiency, and suitability of materials for the application. Future developments will depend on the design of HEAs that combine catalytic activity, corrosion resistance, phase stability, durability, and cost-effectiveness. View this paper
