Vehicles: Four New Journal Sections Established

The landscape of automotive and transportation engineering is evolving at an unprecedented pace, driven by a growing demand for safer and smarter mobility. In response to this dynamic evolution, we are pleased to announce the establishment of four new sections in Vehicles. These new sections aim to refine the classification of automotive engineering research, helping authors identify the most appropriate scope for their submissions and enabling readers to quickly access research in their areas of interest. The four new sections are as follows:

• Section 1: Vehicle Dynamics and Control

This section focuses on the dynamic behavior of vehicle systems and advanced control strategies. Topics covered include vehicle stability, ride comfort, active safety systems, chassis control, tire–road interaction, and the modeling and control of vehicle dynamics, whether conventional or autonomous.

• Section 2: Powertrain and Energy Systems

This section highlights developments in powertrain architecture and energy management. Key areas covered include internal combustion engines, hybrid and electric powertrains, fuel cell systems, energy storage and conversion, thermal management, and energy efficiency optimization.

• Section 3: Intelligent and Connected Mobility

This section addresses the convergence of connectivity, automation, and data-driven intelligence in modern transportation. Topics of interest include autonomous driving systems, vehicle-to-X (V2X) communication, cooperative intelligent transportation systems, artificial intelligence for mobility, and the integration of connected vehicle technologies into smart city infrastructure.

• Section 4: Safety and Security in Vehicles

This section provides a dedicated space for research on the protection of vehicle occupants and the broader transportation ecosystem. Topics include passive and active safety systems, sensor-based perception for collision avoidance, functional safety, the cybersecurity of vehicle networks, and human factors in safety-critical situations.

The introduction of these four new sections marks a significant milestone in the development of Vehicles. We look forward to advancing interdisciplinary exchange and innovation in automotive engineering with authors, reviewers, and readers worldwide. All new submissions will be assigned to one of these sections, and existing Special Issues will be reorganized to reflect the new structure.
