Cover Story: This paper describes hydrothermal synthesis of rutile-type titania crystals with pseudocuboid shapes. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy and selected area electron diffraction analysis revealed that they exposed at least {121} and {001}, which were not usually faceted at rutile crystal. Steps and kinks were observed at the cuboid-shaped crystals, indicating that “grown shape” rutile was formed by the present approach. We concluded that an appropriate number of coexisting anatase and brookite-type titania nanoparticles might control the growth of rutile crystals. View this paper
