Cover Story: Plastic recycling has the potential to partially replace our dependence on virgin resins for the production of different products. Therefore, the scientific community is now focusing on the use of post-consumer plastics as matrices to produce natural fiber/plastic composites (NFPC). However, the low compatibility between both materials imposes significant technical challenges. Therefore, the use of suitable chemical treatments is a simple option to improve the interfacial quality and mechanical performance of these materials. Based on this approach, the main objective is to reduce the production costs and develop value-added applications for these wastes, as well as to improve our carbon footprint by the development of more sustainable materials.
